Counselling Course for teachers and parents
A counselling course offered by London College of Teachers and Trainers typically involves studying various theoretical approaches, practical techniques, and ethical guidelines for helping individuals cope with psychological, emotional, and interpersonal challenges. Counselling has a close relationship with psychology, as both fields aim to understand human behaviour, thoughts, and emotions. However, counselling typically focuses more on providing support, guidance, and problem-solving strategies to help individuals improve their well-being and address specific issues they may be facing.
Ethics and guidelines play a crucial role in counselling sessions to ensure that clients receive effective and ethical treatment.
Here are some key ethical principles and guidelines that counsellors typically adhere to:
- Confidentiality: Counsellors must maintain strict confidentiality regarding information shared by clients during counselling sessions. This means that counsellors cannot disclose any information shared by clients unless there is a legal or ethical obligation to do. Understand the cognitive, emotional and social development of a child.
- Boundaries: Counsellors must establish clear boundaries with clients to maintain a professional and therapeutic relationship. This includes avoiding dual, maintaining appropriate physical and emotional distance, and avoiding any behaviour that could be perceived as exploitative or inappropriate.
- Competence: Counsellors must possess the necessary knowledge, skills, and training to provide competent counselling services to clients. This may involve obtaining relevant academic degrees, completing supervised clinical experience, and engaging in on-going professional development to stay current with best practices in counselling.
- Cultural Sensitivity: Counsellors must demonstrate cultural competence and sensitivity to the diverse backgrounds, values, and beliefs of their clients. This includes being aware of how cultural factors may influence clients' experiences and tailoring counselling approaches to be culturally appropriate and respectful.
- Non-Discrimination: Counsellors must adhere to principles of non-discrimination and avoid any form of prejudice or bias in their interactions with clients. They must provide counselling services to all individuals regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or other personal characteristics.
- Professionalism: Counsellors must conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times, both inside and outside of counselling sessions. This includes maintaining appropriate boundaries, refraining from engaging in any behaviour that could harm the client or undermine the counselling relationship, and adhering to the ethical standards set forth by professional counselling organizations.
